And why would you want to do it?

Accessing your subconscious is a powerful tool to by-passing belief systems and habits that have been ingrained for years and adjusting them or, eventually, eliminating the ones you don't want altogether. Now, if you are a shy person learning how to access your subconscious will help with some of the social anxiety you feel but only practise, practise, practise will allow you to overcome your shyness or any other characteristic that you want to work on.

There are as many reasons to access your subconscious as there are ways to do it.

  • Meditation – sitting quietly with no external distractions or input. Practising this on a continual basis will allow you to enter an Alpha state quickly which is the brain's highest learning phase.

  • Self-Hypnosis – again no external distraction such as TV or radio but you either have a memorized script that you repeat to yourself or use a taped induction talk that will guide you into a relaxed state that allows access to your subconscious.

  • Walking Meditation – this is a physical form of meditation that has you walking at super slow motion paying attention to everything around you. Focusing closely on the details around you opens up your mind to new levels.

  • Hypnosis – if you have the type of personality that will allow you to have another person guide you through a hypnotic state then this is a quick way to access your subconscious. They can also give you a post-hypnotic suggestion to allow you to access quickly using one of the other methods after the initial induction.

  • Floatation Tanks – these tanks started being used in the 60s when the mind altering effects of environments and drugs were beginning to be tested. A floatation tank is basically an enclosed hot tub where you lay in water that is body temperature. The water also had a heavy saline concentration in it so that you do float and not bob up and down as you do in the swimming pool. When the door to the tank is shut all light and noise is cut off. As you float in the dark and lose sense of where you end and the water begins your mind has no input and goes within. These are very good meditation devices.

Any access to the subconscious can be preceded by focusing on the problem you want to solve, the habit you want to adjust or whatever it is you want to address by accessing your subconscious. Focusing on the question before will alert your mind that this is what you want all energies to be directed at.

Remember, the subconscious is more powerful and sneaky than your conscious mind. If there is a conflict between your conscious and your subconscious, the subconscious will win every time. Have you have done something and afterward wondered 'What was I thinking?', your subconscious could answer that question for you. It holds all the programming, learning, habits and baggage that you've accumulated throughout your life and any of it can wash up unexpectedly in your day to day activities.

Accessing it directly can be a powerful aid when you're trying to accomplish a goal. With your subconscious directed to help accomplish your goal you will not fail.

Thank you Nancy B. for responding to my request. I noticed that I was using some of the techniques and didn't know it. You pointed out some simple and direct techniques. I can recall myself at times saying, "What was I thinking?" Especially when I wrote some of my books. My next question would be, Where did that come from? I bet my subconscious could answer that. Thanks for sharing.

no offense but it kind of sounds like you just summarized the most popular articles on tapping into your subconcious.

Lady Luck, all the techniques I've listed here are some of the ones that I've tried myself over the years. Just as each person accesses their subconscious for different reasons, the access used is different for each person based upon their personality. Everyone has to find their own.

Just remember, Zip, if one technique doesn't work for you, it's no biggie, move on to another one until you find what works for you.

"Remember, the subconscious is more powerful and sneaky than your conscious mind. If there is a conflict between your conscious and your subconscious, the subconscious will win every time."

That is very true, it applies to "automatic writing" and any other action regarding ideomotor response as well, where you are able to communicate with your subconscious.

I've been researching and doing it from the time i first encountered this phenomenon and I can say that conscious and subconscious is in a way like a split personality except the subconscious has an extreme intellectual advantage - having complete access to the intellectual operations and memories of the brain.

Besides that the subconscious thoughts go through impressions and sensations then ideas or EMOTIONS filter before making an intellectual operation - so while interacting with it don't break your own moral standards otherwise the subconscious thoughts will be influenced by impressions and emotions and will deliberately manipulate, lie and mess with you. If you respect your own standards and harmonically interact with your subconscious, the thoughts will derive from unique new and useful ideas (instead of emotions)
